EXPO 2027 Belgrade supported the prestigious IRONMAN 70.3 race held in Belgrade on 15 September 2024. This iconic global sporting event was organised for the first time in Serbia and in this part of Europe. Hosting the IRONMAN triathlon in Belgrade highlights Serbia’s growing presence on the international sports scene, strengthening its reputation as a destination for world-class competitions.
“As the theme of the EXPO exhibition in Belgrade is ‘Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All’, the collaboration with IRONMAN perfectly aligns with the vision of promoting sport as a unifying force that transcends borders and cultures. The fact that Belgrade is preparing to host an international exhibition for the first time is a testament to our city’s development as a major global destination for large events. The debut of IRONMAN 70.3 and EXPO 2027 in Belgrade is a monumental opportunity that underscores our capital’s growing importance on the world stage. We look forward to continuing this dynamic journey, where sport becomes a bridge between nations, fostering a shared sense of achievement and celebration”, said Dušan Borovčanin, Director of EXPO 2027 d.o.o. Belgrade.
The triathlon is renowned for its gruelling demands, combining swimming, cycling, and running in one extreme test of endurance. The IRONMAN series represents the pinnacle of this discipline, pushing athletes to their physical and mental limits. The Belgrade IRONMAN 70.3 race is expected to attract over 1,000 elite competitors from around the world, making it the largest triathlon in Serbia’s history. This extraordinary gathering of athletes reflects the spirit of determination, resilience, and international unity that EXPO 2027 also aims to show.
